Hybrid IT & Cloud Computing

Key industry trends for 2013

Hybrid IT & Cloud Computing were key IT trends in 2013 reported from industry leading authorities such as Adobe and AIMIA (Australia Interactive Media Industry Association)

2013 Cloud Connect conference, discussion moved from defining cloud computing to discussing practical enterprises applications of the cloud. The conference turned from cheerleading to nuts and bolts. This means it's less fun, but it's also more grounded in the day-to-day realities of implementing change instead of envisioning utopia. Many presentations focused on real-world use cases and concrete action steps, with a strong focus on hybrid cloud computing.

The dominant model presented in most sessions was multi cloud computing, including discussions of hardware, software selection, migrating workloads and cost management. Common to all these presentations is an assumption that the future of cloud computing will be operated by central IT, which will develop a common operating model used across all cloud environments.

As cloud offerings added vertical business capability offerings to the horizontal IT capacity services, the adoption question changed from "if" to "when" and “how”—and the answer is frequently "now”. According to a report from IT research firm Gartner, 10% of overall IT security enterprise product capabilities will be delivered in the cloud by 2015, and the cloud-based security services market is projected to reach $4.2 billion by 2016.
